Sleep

This is the last Twitchtape of the term so I though I would create something a bit different. This mix consists of songs which I myself listen to as I drift off to sleep. As you can imagine they are far from party tunes or crowd pleasers, they are all very deep songs. Even if you dont listen to music when trying to sleep, try it when working, reading or just chilling. I hope you enjoy and feel free to comment either on here or on the facebook group. Oh the picture is my dream place.

Much love Twitch

York University

York University!!! What a concrete dive.

As i sit in some stupid room at a desk in one of the study rooms writing about pointless crap for the sake of gaining marks so i can shake someone's hand while they say, "What an idiot you spent £9000 on this piece of paper. The rest of York's high society are out in town or drinking with their friends chatting about their Grad schemes and internships with investment banks etc. Stupid idiots no one wants to hear of your sucess!!!

So next time you hear this bollocks which escapes their expensive red wine stained teeth think of this.

Guitar Blues and shit

Dark was the town of York and man it was bear cold. It was FRIGID. We, like, gathered out to like smoke and shit and talk or whatever but it was like bear cold. And because it was like so totally frigid and shit because it was like winter I think, we like had to find someplace to go or whatever lest we like get all hypothermic and shit. So we found this like cave which was well kosher like in the middle of nowhere and it like looked a bit warmer than the outside or whatever so like standard, we went in.

We sparked up a fag and this and that and like the devil was there. It was heavy.. We were like talking and shit, and the devil came over and whatever and shit, and said like,

"Yo!! Dudes if you like give me your soul and shit, err like errr i will give you some shit for it isnt it?"

and so we were all like,

"You know we were actually talking, Its BEARRR rude to interrupt people and shit!"

and he was all like

"WHATEVER do you want some shit and that"

and we were all like

"What type of shit?"

and he was like

"Bad ass skills on guitar and shit, and like lifetime supply of the drone isnt it!"

and we were all like

"NO way blud jah bless why you flexing me, like Drone is like well bad for you and shit, ITS actually a Poison yeah?"

and so like we left and shit

Standard.....

So the moral of this doug and twood adventure is don't listen to the devil and listen to this Mix

On the Road (Twitchtape)

Here we are then. First show went down last night and the new theme for the next mixtape is under planning. This week i shall be looking into America. Yes on this journey we have gone from York to Bath via Train now to America.

My Girlfriend lent me On the Road last summer all i could think in my head was music music music is needed. Written by Jack Kerouac and published in 1957 On The Road is one of the most highly acclaimed novels of the past century. The novel is an autobiographical tale of Kerouac's journeys across America. This has inspired me to create a mixtape of music which i feel would really work on a Cross America Trip.

The music will be old and new but all drawing from American roots. Some songs will be from the era of the novel others just simple down to earth country, blues and red neck bangers.

When listening to the next podcast and mixtape or even radio show get involved and imagine you are the driver of something like the car above not a care in the world just driving for the thrill of driving and meeting people. Maybe getting into problems with the police on the way, dancing to blues, bee bop and country. Meeting faces you will never forget on the road hitchhiking and drinking cheap MUD.

Sit back and listen up for the tunes.

First Twitchtape One Train Journey

Right..... The idea of this volume is creating a mixtape for a long train journey.  This was thought up on my journey from York to Bath, a pretty long and boring journey but i figured, make a mixtape it will pass the time and make me happy.

Track one

----Age of Consent
----New Order
----Power, Corruption and Lies (Album)
----Released 1983

The video does not really match the song but oh well!!!!
The reasons behind putting this is rather pretentious but i do feel that the song kinda has a somewhat moving motion to it.  If you disagree thats cool i probs would but it is a beautiful tune.

Track Two
Here is the MP3       Black Cab--Jens Lekman

This is a tune to stick your head up against the window and just think ahhhhhh im loving everything.  I chose this song because it really did make Birmingham New Street seem more bearable.

----Black Cab
----Jens Lekman
----Oh You're So Silent Jens (Album)
----Released 2005

Track three

This is a really old favorite of mine.  It is by a band called Talk Taxis.  I really think that the band has a very unique sound and Will's (the lead singers) voice and lyrics are so powerful.  This band i had the fortune of meeting and they played in the working mens club in York back in my first year.

The MP3         Building Bridges

Track four

Is by a Japanese artist called Nujabes. This is kinda jazzy rip hop really with a few Asian notes running though. This is an artist i would highly recommend checking out his stuff is pretty hard to get hold of with not much being on i tunes. Though i may very be wrong.

----Letter from Yokosuka
----Nujabes
----Metaphorical Music (album)
----released 2003

The MP3          Letter From Yokosuka

Track five
Is a follow on from track four really. This is an artist i have really been trying to get more tunes from much like nujabes really. Very much pure down tempo really good for passing the hours on a train getting stuck into a book maybe doing a bit of work (shock horror) or just doing as i do looking out of the window.

----First Snow
----Emancipator
----Don't Know
----Don't Know

The MP3             First Snow

Track Six
Another down tempo tune this time from Tommy Guerrero. I was introduced to this artist by a japanese student we had staying with us when i was in six form. I instantly fell in love with the dreamy riffs and simple beats. I hope you enjoy his work as much as i do.

----Blue Masses
----Tommy Guerrero
----A little bit of Something
----Released 2000

The MP3         Blue Masses

Track Seven
Picking up the pace a little here and returning back to english music. Sorry about al the videos its just that i havnt yet figured out how to properly upload stuff that i will do in due course. Quantic are a london/brighton based band again kinda down tempo but funky as ****. Bit a a banger this tune and it always gets me rather excited and makes me wanna throw some super big shapes.

----Not so Blue
----Quantic
----Apricot Morning
----Released 2002

The MP3        Not So Blue

Track eight
Staying in england again here with this tune. Four Tet is rather inspirational in my opinion. Off the album Pause (which you should all buy but legally buy) Everything is alright is the one which for me really stands out. It reminds me of first year at uni where i had it on my phone and provided countless chilling times outside. back to the train though mint tune to watch stuff fly by too.

----Everything is Alright
----Four Tet
----Pause
----Released 2001

The MP3      Everything is Alright

Track nine
A tune which my old co host and I played pretty much every show (probably due to me). This Swedish legend has really jumped to fame. I had never heard of her until she played in York and all my house mates went to see her and i didn't (bad move). Lykke Li is now massive and electro remixes of her are al over the shop get into it is all i can say.

----Until we Bleed
----Kleerup ft Lykke Li
----Not on her album
----unsure

The MP3        Until we Bleed

Track ten
Air France no no no no no not the airline the band. Again Swedish i know i need to get the hell over swedish music. Anyway found this on some of the blogs i use and fell in love with it. For me all i can think of when hearing it is going on some super long walk having it filmed and played back to me with the speed increased. this is why i think it is perfect for the purposes of this mixtape remember we are on a train where fields and cities fly by. Next time you are on a train or car listen to this-----loud volume---and watch things out the window its PERFECT

----Collapsing at Your Doorstep
----Air France
----No idea
----No idea

The MP3        Collapsing at your Doorstep

Track eleven
Bonobo you can never go wrong with them on any mixtape. I rate this as their best tune. I love the counter beats and simple repetitive melody and counter melodies. I hope you enjoy this and rate is as highly as i do..

----Recurring
----Bonobo
----Days to Come (album)
----2006

The MP3      Recurring

Track twelve
OH no again this mix tape returns to sweden for the next tune. Happy-go-lucky are a bit electro poppy but who doesnt like that hey? Any way this simple tune really works i think. Very chilled out but yet kinda has a sound resembling a train pounding along those steel tracks. Do check out the myspace

Happy-Go-Lucky Myspace

----Going Out
----Happy Go Luckyy
----album i don't know my recording is of Popkonst buy buy that album its mint
----2000 (and something)

The MP3    Going out

Track thirteen
Winding things down for the last tune really here. I Promise that next mix tape will have less swedish music in but oh well for the last tune on the mix tape i am combining two things with this post. the tune of course is Nattoppet and its by Detektivbyran. The video was made by some art students and the bloke in it is a good mate. Anyway i feel that a good mixtape should start with a banger and end in an even better tune. This for me was the perfect tune to ride a train to so beautiful it really changed the whole journey and made it a pleaseure.

----Nattoppet
----Detektivbyran
----Hemvagen EP
----released 2006

The MP3       Nattoppet
